Specifications: • Basal bark treatment will be conducted on all stems greater than 5 feet tall. The bottom 12 inches of bark shall be wetted for the entire circumference using an approved herbicide mix (see required mix below). • Foliar spray will be conducted on all stems 5 feet or less in height. The leaves are to be wetted, but not to the point of excessive runoff. • Work must be completed by June 30th 2025. • Work may be restricted when snow prevents spraying to the ground line, bark is wet, or the period of heavy sap flow during late winter/early spring. • Contractor should be capable of identifying buckthorn with or without leaves. • Contractor must complete project within 1 month of starting. Basal Spraying herbicide: Use the basal bark treatment on stems greater than 5 feet tall. Use a chemical with a minimum 60% active ingredient triclopyr (i.e Garlon 4 Ultra, Relegate, Forestry Garlon 4 or equivalent) at a 30% solution. Diluent blue will be the remaining 70% mix to aid bark penetration and prevent missed stems or over application. Apply herbicide mixture to thoroughly wet the bark but not to the point of runoff. Foliar Spraying herbicide: Use Foliar treatment on plants 5 feet tall or less. Use a chemical with a minimum 60% active ingredient triclopyr (i.e Garlon 4 Ultra, Relegate, Forestry Garlon 4 or equivalent) at a 30% solution. Apply herbicide mixture to thoroughly wet the leaves but not to the point of runoff. • All herbicide application shall follow appropriate label directions. • Herbicide shall not be transported to and from the project site in bulk >(119 gallons) • All herbicide treatments will contain a diluent blue dye to show the extent of stems and leaves treated. • Contractor will be responsible for proper storage, transportation and application of herbicide. • Contractor must have Safety Data Sheets on work site for all products herbicide products being used. • A completed pesticide application report must be sent to the DNR Project Supervisor. Application reports will be sent in monthly or when the project is completed as specified by the project supervisor. Application reports must be submitted before final invoice will be paid. • Contractor must post a notice sign (see Attachment) indicating the dates of application, chemical applied, and reentry date to site at the trail locations for each project. • No broadcast foliar treatments allowed. Herbicide treatment must follow label and be on the approved chemicals listed above. • Due to challenges with monitoring and evaluating compliance with specifications, work on this job will be monitored as follows: 1.) Vendor will be required to track progress geospatially, using a handheld GPS (Garmin or equivalent) or GPS-enabled smartphone (Avenza app or equivalent). Vendor will be required to coordinate this component of the project with the Project Supervisor. 2.) Written progress reports must be provided at a minimum of 2-week intervals to the Project Supervisor. Project Supervisor reserves the right to perform regular on-site inspections as work progresses. These progress reports must include daily pesticide application report logs, as well as the geospatial information referenced above.
