A. Ball Field Location and Considerations Ball fields are located behind Bacon Academy High School as shown in the satellite image provided in ATTACHMENT A. The outfields of both the Baseball and Softball fields are utilized by fall sports for practice. Bacon Academy Football begins practicing on August 15th 2024. All other Bacon Academy fall sports begin practice on August 19th 2024. The first day of school begins on August 29th 2024. After the school year begins the gate access to the rear of the building shall be locked when not actively in use. The contractor shall make their work areas visible and secure utilizing safety fence or some other visible barrier to practicing athletes and coaches. All accommodations made by the contractor for ingress and egress of the site are incidental to the cost of the project. There is no irrigation on either of these fields. B. Survey & Layout Work All survey and layout work required to establish quantities, achieve proper locations, dimensions, or elevations for this project shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. C. Limits of Work The work area shall include the infield clay, infield sod, and all surrounding sod within a distance measured 12’ beyond the existing outside edge of the infield clay. D. Ball Field Dimensions Baseball and softball infields are to be renovated to the dimensions shown on American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) Fields Manual Figure L-15 and Figure L-16 respectively. An overlay of the existing fields with the ASBA field dimensions is provided in ATTACHMENT A for the contractor to utilize for informational purposes only. It is the sole responsibility of the contractor to field verify existing conditions prior to bid. E. Removal of Existing Material The elevation of the existing infields and surrounding turf are above that of the surrounding playing surface. They are estimated to be 4”-10” above the original playing surface elevation, however it is the sole responsibility of the Contractor field verify existing conditions prior to bid. Material shall be removed to the depth that will allow the finish grade of the infield and surrounding turf to be equal to that of the surrounding playing surface. All work and coordination for the removal and disposal of existing material spoil, including existing bases and anchors, shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. F. Sub Grade The sub grade elevations are to be the mirror image of the finish grade minus the depth of the infield mix column. Grade tolerance is to be ¼” within 20’. Material is to be free of debris and organic materials and shall be compacted with a smooth drum 1-3 TN roller then scarified prior to placement of infield cap. All fill shall be compacted in 2” lifts and scarified between lifts. For sod sub grade see section I. Sod Placement G. Finish Grade The infield shall be cone-graded away in all directions from the pitching rubber until the project limits and shall have a slope between .6% and .75%. Finish Grade Tolerance is to be 1/16” within 20’. Finish grade shall be compacted with a smooth drum 1-3 TN roller. Finish grade after compaction shall be 3/16” higher than the surrounding playing surfaces to allow for further settlement after final completion of the project. For sod finish grade see section I.
