As part of the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) AIG plan, students are screened for the purposes of gifted identification and advanced learning services. A component of the identification process is a nationallynormed ability/aptitude achievement test that helps school-based teams determine which students are intellectually gifted. Starting in the 2024-2025 school year, all second-grade students in WCPSS will be screened with an ability/aptitude assessment. There are approximately 12,000 second grade students across 119 elementary schools. Scope of Screener: Ability An aptitude assessment that is designed to provide insight into students’ readiness to demonstrate creative problem-solving skills and learn in different situations and learning environments. Capable of providing detailed information on students’ Verbal, Quantitative, and Figural (Nonverbal) reasoning in less than two class periods through multiple, engaging measures that reflect student potential for learning. The assessment must provide individual domain scores, partial composites, and complete test composites for every student who finishes the test.
