Investigators will conduct a literature review that examines domestic and international resources regarding toxicity testing and toxicity of deicing products used in winter maintenance operations. As part of this research, investigators will consider and evaluate appropriate tests to be conducted to measure toxicity levels and determine if these tests are the same as currently required by Clear Roads or if additional or different toxicity tests need to be considered by Clear Roads. The investigator will identify toxicity level thresholds to use for evaluating testing results, including important data points, acceptable value ranges, and appropriate indicator species. Finally, the investigator will develop a test result template to be completed by vendors (or completed by lab and reviewed / submitted by the vendor) that specifically highlights the most important and pertinent information contained within the results. This template should provide for a clear understanding of the test results and plainly indicate if a product is within acceptable ranges or exceeds toxicity thresholds.
