The project work will include of safeguarding nine (9) mine features including four (4) adits, four (4) subsidence s and one (1) air vent. The project will occur on private mining claims and land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Montrose County. Closure methods will include grates, corrugated steel pipes, backfill with polyurethane foam. Some features will include bat compatible grates or otherwise require bat exclusions prior to backfill or bulkhead. The uranium mine closure Safety, Health and Environmental Action Plan requirements will be applied. The project area is located in dry, remote locations on private mining claims and public property managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Uncompahgre Field Office, all sites are on BLM. Some of the closures are foot access only due to their location along cliff lines or lack of access roads. Numerous closures are hand backfills with limited materials for backfill and will require Polyurethane Foam. Equipment traffic will be limited to existing roads and two tracks and will require approval of BLM and PROJECT MANAGER prior to any equipment access. Equipment access will also be limited by the number trips for certain sites. See attached maps defining project area and site locations. Dangerous rock overhangs and fractured rock are located at many of the mine openings.
