METER BOX RIMS AND LIDS - Meter box rims and lids shall be in accordance with the standard drawing(s) included in this Section 1. Meter can cast iron lids shall be standard City of Tulsa design, in accordance with the attached Standard detail. The lids shall be ground to fit into the rim recess snugly and evenly without forcing. Lettering shall match that shown in the standard drawing detail. Castings shall be strong with even grain, smooth, free from scale, blisters, sand holes and other defects which would make them unfit for the intended use. Castings shall be made accurately to dimensions shown and shall be planed or ground where marked or where otherwise necessary to secure perfectly flat and true surfaces. A. Gray iron castings shall conform to and be tested in accordance with the Standard Specification for Gray Iron Castings ASTM A48 and Drainage Structure Castings, AASHTO Designation: M 306-89. All castings, including manhole steps, lamphole covers, water meter lids, manhole frames and lids, adjustment rings and valve boxes shall be Class 35-B iron. B. Casting dimensions shall vary by not more than plus or minus 1/16 inch per foot. C. All bearing surfaces shall be machined to prevent rocking and rattling. D. Only those castings which have been approved by the Department will be permitted. E. Markings or wording on all gray iron castings shall conform to AASHTO Designation M306-89. (AASHTO M306-89 states: Each casting shall be identified by the foundry showing): Name of Foundry Country of Manufacture ASTM Designation Number Class by a number followed by a letter indicating the minimum tensile strength and size of test bar. (i.e. Class 35-B) Heat Number and Date No other wording or marking of any kind other than those stated above or shown on the standard drawings will be permitted on castings. OFFSET PLUGS FOR METER CAN LIDS Offset plugs with cotter pin for meter can lid shall be provided only when specifically requested. HDPE METER BOXES All HDPE meter boxes shall be light pedestrian/greenbelt, ASTM C857, WUC 3.6, flush solid, cover: black, body: black, reader door detail, touch read hole Only the following preapproved models or their components will be accepted: Meter can for: Approved Models: 3/4" & 1” service Carson 1520 DFW Plastics, Inc DFW1800-18-M1DT 2" service East Jordan 00842801 (8428 GALV) (2” Meter) SIGMA 36OD X 36H MB-147T2-35 (2”) Meter Can must be 20-gauge GALV for 2” Service. East Jordan 2” lid shall be the keyhole model #3219704.
