Specifications include, but are not limited to: This specification covers two sizes of fire shelters 1.2 Classification. The fire shelter shall be one of the following sizes: Regular 86”L x 31”W x 15.5”H Large 96”L x 33”W x 19.5”H. Laminated cloths. The three laminated cloths used in the fabrication of the fire shelter shall conform to Forest Service Specification 5100-607 and be certified as conforming to this specification by UL. 3.3.2 Thread, quartz. The quartz thread for the fire shelter shall be amorphous fused silica with polytetraflouroethylene (PTFE) binder. The quartz thread shall be Q-18 Quartz Sewing Thread from Saint Gobain Quartz USA, Lewco Specialty Products or Fiber Materials, Inc. (see 6.4). 3.3.2.1 Thread construction. The thread shall be twisted from a multiple high purity fused quartz with a lubricating film of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Yarns made from 300- 1/0 fused quartz strands with an aminosilane finish shall be twisted into a thread construction of 300-4/3. The thread shall have the characteristics shown in table I. 3.3.3 Thread, nylon. The nylon thread for attaching the pull strap to the polyvinyl chloride bag after sealing the fire shelter inside shall be type II, class A, size FF conforming to AA-59826. The color shall be black. 3.3.4 Thread, Kevlar. The Kevlar thread for attaching the shake handles shall be A-A55220, Table I, Size Tex 120, natural color. 3.3.5 Thread, glass fiber. The glass thread for the fire shelter shall be PTFE treated and conform to type III, class 3 of MIL-C-20079. 3.3.6 Cloth, Kevlar. The Kevlar cloth for the shake handles shall be Southern Mills product code 613-0160-F, 100% Kevlar, 8 ounces/square yard, style S/500 KT, 2x1 twill weave, W/S T finish, natural color.
