Specifications include, but are not limited to: • The purpose of this contract is to chemically treat European buckthorn on approximately 43 acres of state land located approximately 7 miles west of Two Harbors, Minnesota within Section 36 of T53N R12W. • Invasive shrubs consist of largely of buckthorn. Density at the time of survey (2024) averages 1400 SPA, although the western portion of the tract is more heavily infested, as noted in the attached map. • The identified buckthorn plants were largely under 2’, and can be treated by foliar spot spray as described below: o Foliar Spot Spray: All shrub stems less than 5 feet tall will be foliar-sprayed using Garlon 4 Ultra or Garlon XRT at between 1-15% or 1-10% dilution, respectively, per label specifications, or equivalent Triclopyr formulation. Surfactant (e.g. Liberate) and tinted bark oil solution required with mix. • In the event that any large or seed-bearing shrubs are identified they may be treated using either Basal bark or Cut-stem specifications: o Basal bark: All shrub stems greater than 5 foot tall without seeds will be treated with a basal bark application. Apply Garlon 4 Ultra with a color dye in a manner that thoroughly wets the entire stem and root collar up the stem at least 12 inches, but not to the point of runoff. o Cut-stem: All seed-bearing shrub stems must be cut to within 3” of the ground and treated. After felling tree, apply Garlon 4 Ultra to wet the area adjacent to the cambium and the bark around the entire circumference and the sides of the cut stump.
