Specifications include, but are not limited to: San Miguel County completed a Community Wildfire Protection Plan in 2009. The current plan includes assessing wildfire risk, hazard analysis, mitigation strategies, community education, emergency preparedness and response capabilities, and mitigation strategies. This plan should be updated to address one of the County’s principal threats identified in our All Hazard Mitigation Plan. San Miguel County relies on water for town and agricultural uses from several sources provided by several large watersheds inside the county boundary. There are many threats to forested watersheds in Colorado that provide drinking water for surrounding communities. These threats include wildfire and post-wildfire effects, insects and diseases, floods, and drought.
