Specifications include, but are not limited to: Minnesota Supreme Court Request for Proposals for Painted Portrait Commission The Minnesota Supreme Court hereby solicits proposals for a painted portrait of Lorie Gildea, retired Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, for public exhibition in the Minnesota Judicial Center located on the Capitol Mall in St. Paul. This portrait will join a number of existing works, the earliest of which were painted by Nicholas Brewer during the 1890s. These paintings are currently available for viewing at the second and third floors of the Judicial Center. It is estimated that nearly 300,000 persons visit the Capitol each year. Many tour the adjacent Minnesota Judicial Center and view the court's art collection. Chief Justice Gildea is available for sittings in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The dimensions of the proposed work should be approximately 50 X 32 inches. A half-length or three-quarter-length portrait format is required. The portrait is to be painted in artist’s oils or acrylics, on stretched and primed artist’s linen support. Final completion of the portrait is desired by May 1, 2025, but the deadline is negotiable. Up to $25,000 has been allotted for the commission, which includes the portrait and the frame. The frame will be selected by designated court representatives in consultation with the artist.
