Specifications include, but are not limited to: (a) Represent CSCU and act as Attorney General Designee in administrative matters before state and federal agencies, including the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, and the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission; (b) Manage litigation matters and liaise with the Office of Attorney General and outside counsel for employment litigation, student litigation, and general litigation tort matters pending before the Connecticut Claims Commission; (c) Conduct investigations as required; (d) Prepare responsive pleadings and review, edit and/or comment on motion practice in litigation; (e) Prepare responses to interrogatories, requests for production of documents, and requests for admission; (f) Prepare witnesses for testimony; (g) Prepare case analysis summaries for executive leadership and make recommendations regarding litigation strategy; (h) Negotiate settlements involving legal issues on behalf of CSCU in conjunction with CSCU officials, the GC, and the Connecticut State Attorney General, as appropriate; (i) Under the supervision of the GC, manage outside counsel matters; (j) Advise CSCU administrators on responding to internal complaints and grievances, including employment grievances, academic grievances, discrimination complaints, and student conduct matters, and provide administrators with prospective advice to avoid complaints and grievances; (k) Draft, revise, and advise internal clients regarding CSCU policies and procedures; (l) Draft legal memoranda, claim response letters, and agreements, including settlement and separation agreements; (m) Provide legal guidance on Freedom of Information requests; (n) Assist the GC by providing client-focused and mission-oriented legal services to departments, colleges, officials, and employees of CSCU; and (o) Perform any related duties as directed by the GC.
