Specifications include, but are not limited to: Huntsville City Schools is seeking a qualified responsible bidder to maintain tree and shrub beds at all our facilities including weed control mulch maintenance, and pruning. This contract will also include grass and weed control in parking lots, roadways, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters. Work will be on an as needed basis determined by the HCS Grounds Staff. Basic maintenance includes the following: 1. Removal of weeds from shrub beds, flowerbeds, and around trees utilizing a herbicide where possible and/or pulling the weeds if application of a herbicide would damage nearby shrubs, flowers or trees. Maintain all beds quarterly to prevent overgrowth of weeds, etc. 2. Apply herbicide to kill grass spots in parking lots, roadways, sidewalks, curbs and gutters. Remove all dead weeds from campuses quarterly. 3. Application of a pre-emergent and maintenance done before March 15 to all mulch beds. 4. Application of a pre-emergent and maintenance done in July to all mulch beds. 5. Application of a pre-emergent and maintenance done in October to all mulch beds. 6. Refresh mulch beds maintenance in January and July. 7. Re-mulch all beds twice yearly, or as requested by HCS, ensuring pre-emergent is applied on top of the new mulch. Application of mulch shall be at a minimum depth of two (2) inches and a maximum depth of four (4) inches. HCS grounds supervisor will continually monitor mulch depth to ensure it remains within bid specifications. 8. Prune trees and shrubs on a continuing basis to maintain plant profiles and healthy growth. Tree pruning is to cover a height of up to 10 feet. Any pruning over 10 feet to be handled on a case-by-case basis. 9. Remove any dead shrubs or plants from beds. Remove any fallen limbs or debris from school property. Add any additional new plants, or shrubs, per HCS request at a cost noted on the bid pricing sheet. 10. Price for basic maintenance is based on a 12-month contract. HCS will be billed, and the contractor paid monthly at 1/12 of an annual contract rate. Trees, shrubs, mulch and pre-emergent maintenance will be quarterly as needed but can be billed out monthly.
