Specifications include, but are not limited to: Bag Car ARR 101 is constructed with aluminum sheeting over a steel & aluminum substructure and requires sandblasting exterior to bare metal, repair of corrosion and repainting to keep in good working order. Passenger coach ARR 205 is constructed with weathering steel (ASTM A242) sheeting over weathering steel substructure and require sandblasting exterior to bare metal, repair of sidesill corrosion and repainting to keep in good working order. Both cars will be provided to the Contractor with the interior and underfloor equipment intact and care must be taken to ensure that the interior and underfloor equipment is not damaged or adversely effected throughout the duration of the work. All costs associated with the repair or replacement of any portion of the interior or underfloor equipment, as either a direct or indirect result of the work performed under this Contract, will be the Contractor’s responsibility. In preparation for paint, the Contactor shall remove all windows (along with their associated gaskets), grab irons, exterior lighting (e.g. vestibule & end lighting), louvers, trim, and any other appurtenances that are not intended to be painted. All items removed from the exterior of the coaches are to be labeled, stored and protected from damage until re-installation. All uninstalled parts are to be returned to ARRC in good condition with the completed car. Special care is to be taken when handling the windows. Any windows or window gaskets damaged by the Contractor will be replaced at the contractors’ expense. All removed painted parts identified for reinstallation are to be stripped and repainted per the specifications in Appendix B prior to reinstallation. The car exterior is to be stripped of all coatings (including body filler) down to bare metal and repainted per Appendix B ‘Specifications for Repainting of Passenger Cars and Locomotive Exteriors’. After removal of existing coatings, an assessment of the coach’s structure is to be made by the Owner’s representative with the contractor. It is anticipated that removal of some additional components (in excess of the minimum required for refinishing the exterior) will be necessary to complete the assessment, especially at the end sills and around the side loading doors. No structural repairs are anticipated that will affect service performance, collision loading, or crashworthiness of the coaches.
