Window System Components Descriptions: Terminology follows AWI’s "Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards," Section 1000. B. Glazing: Includes glass, glazing points, and glazing compounds. Clean surfaces, remove cracked or deteriorated glazing compound, and replace with DAP3 or an approved equivalent. Retain existing intact glazing and original glass. C. Reference Standards: Comply with applicable requirements in AWI’s "Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards" for construction, finishes, grades of wood windows, and other specifications. D. Replicate: Reproduce in exact detail, materials, and finish unless otherwise indicated. E. Window: Includes interior and exterior surfaces of the window frame, sash, hardware, unless context indicates otherwise.; Wood Repair Sequence 1. Remove paint to bare wood at deteriorated locations. 2. Slightly rack frames to inject adhesive into mortise and tenon joints; square frames before adhesive sets. 3. Repair wood by consolidation, member replacement, partial member replacement, and patching. 4. Sand, prime, fill, sand again, and prime surfaces for refinishing. Use PPG Seal Grip 17-921 XI or an approved equivalent primer. 5. Apply two finish coats of PPG AcraShield Exterior Latex (semigloss) or an approved equivalent to wood with moisture content less than 12%. 6. Install glazing compound (DAP 33 or approved equivalent). 7. Install elastomeric caulk sealants and perimeter seals. 8. Ensure windows are weathertight. 9. Use exterior-grade wood glue (Titebond III or approved equal). 10. Remove lead-free paint by hand with sharp, flat-bladed scrapers and hand sand with grit 80, 100, 150. 11. Replace any wood with the same species as the original, matching age, grain direction, and growth rate. Use ground contact pressure-treated wood only if replacement material is unavailable.
