Tennis Court Asphalt Specifications YES:NO Asphalt: 1.Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) shall be manufactured from a state approved/ Certified HMA manufacturing facility. The low volume asphalt concrete consist of a mixture of dense graded aggregate and specified type and grade of asphalt binder. Must follow American Sports Builders Association Asphalt Guidelines. ____:____ 2. Provide and install 2-inches of asphalt binder base. ____:____ Provide and install 1.5-inches of asphalt topping. ____:____ 4. Water Test: Prior to the application of surfacing materials, the entire surface shall be flooded with water, and checked for minor depressions or irregularities. Any puddle holding water deeper than a five (5) cent piece (US coin) should be outlined with chalk and repaired. 5. Variations in planarity of finished surface shall be less or equal to the following tolerances when compared to the true grade elevation. 1. Asphalt leveling course – ¼”. 2. Asphalt surface course – ⅛”. 3. Irregularities exceeding these tolerances or which retain water on the surface when flooded shall be corrected by removing defective work and replacing with new material conforming to this Section. ____:____ 6. 1.5 % slope from South to North to attain proper drainage ____:____ 7. Perform work in appropriate weather conditions that are dry with no rain, snow, or other forms of precipitation falling or imminent. ____:____ 2. Surfacing 1. Squeegee apply 2 coats of Laykold “Nu-Surf” , SportMaster, or approved equal acrylic resurfacer fortified with 60-mesh sand to provide a uniform texture to the surface. ____:____ 2. Squeegee apply 2 coats of Laykold, Sportmaster, or approved equal acrylic color fortified with 80-mesh sand to provide a medium-speed playing surface. ____:____ Color shall be chosen by the City. 3. Apply 2 coats of game lines according to USTA requirements ____:____ 4. Lines shall be accurately located and marked in accordance with the rules of the United States Tennis Association and ASBA guidelines. All lines shall be painted with textured white line paint per manufacturer’s specification. Playing lines shall be taped, and the tape sealed and then painted to provide straight lines with sharp edges. All court measurements shall be made to the outside of the lines. ____:____ 5. Application shall proceed only if the surface is dry and clean and the temperature is at least fifty degrees (50°F) and rising, and the surface temperature is not in excess of one hundred forty degrees (140°F). Do not apply coatings when rain is imminent. ____:____ 6. Install tennis nets center anchors. ____:____ 7. Core drill and install tennis net center posts.
