Specifications include, but are not limited to: Step 1 Initiation and Analysis Collaborate with the University in an interactive process to identify key issues, concerns, requirements, and priorities for the Course’s design. Conduct an onsite review of the proposed site and meet with Recreation and University stakeholders to develop specific criteria for the design. Step 2 Concept Development Develop concept design alternatives that meet the program needs. As required, develop color exterior site plan(s) and section(s) drawings illustrating course element layouts and materials. It is expected that the design for the challenge course will include: Approximately 12 high elements focused upon group learning for 4-8 people, Approximately 12 low elements focused upon group learning for 4-8 people, A handful of individual fun elements (for example zip-line as reward), Suggested infill materials, Attention to audience (majority college students, some community usage/rentals), Attention to accessible elements throughout the course, Modular planning for elements, providing opportunity for future expansion, Methods for securing the course when not in use, The possibility of unsecured, minimal risk elements which could be self-guided, A maintenance, inspection and replacement plan. Step 6 Cost Estimating Develop preliminary costs associated with implementation of the proposed concepts. The cost analysis will include: Construction and contingency, Equipment for course operation, Training costs associated with operating the course for up to 3 years. Work with the University to develop an understanding of Owner’s costs outside of the Challenge Course construction contract (e.g., site clearance, grading, fencing, security). Prepare a schedule that includes critical path understanding of the steps that will be needed for completion of construction. Present the design options and their costs to the University for selection of an option to be constructed. Make the work product of the chosen design available to the University for coordinating the Owner’s scope necessary to prepare for construction/installation. Step 7 Construction & Training Construct the Challenge Course. Train the Recreation Staff on use of the course elements.
