The District has set the following outcomes as it moves towards building more robust virtual and digital learning experiences for students. • To expand equity and access to quality courses and content for all students. • To transform traditional school models through blended teaching and learning approaches that will help to accelerate and recuperate learning. • To enable teachers to create more effective and engaging lessons by leveraging online instructional models and materials. • To personalize the student learning experience to meet individual student needs. The District has set the following key priorities: • Access to courses that supports rigorous and engaging content and aligned to the Oklahoma State Academic Standards. • Provides students with individualized learning paths that address student interest and skill development. • Is varied in the type of engagement, assignments, and assessments offered students that are rigorous and targets deeper learning practices. • Is easy for teachers to manage, giving them more time to focus on high-quality instruction. • Increases students’ sense of ownership by giving students the ability to manage their progress and learning. • Provides frequent and usable data using a variety of assessment methods for administrators, parents, teachers, and students. The virtual and blended learning platform will be used for the following purposes. • Full-Time Virtual School Program is a comprehensive online program for students seeking an innovative, non-traditional means of public education. OKCPS staff will support students in the program by providing services such as guidance and counseling, enrollment, administration of district and state assessment, etc. • Credit Recovery Program for secondary students to recover credits due to failed coursework through participation in online courses during the regular school day, after school, or during the summer. • Student Acceleration and Remediation for students to extend their learning beyond the regular school day and school year or as targeted intervention supports to address individual learner needs and interests. • Blended Learning Program to expand and support blended learning strategies and online resources used by teachers in the regular classroom setting.
