Specifications include, but are not limited to: The contractor will be required to provide all the layouts necessary to construct the elements of this project. The engineer will assist with providing adequate reference points to the center line of the existing roadway. The Contractor shall provide field personnel and set all additional stakes for this project, which are needed to establish offset stakes, reference points, and any other horizontal or vertical controls, including supplementary benchmarks, necessary to secure a correct layout of the work. The Contractor will not be required to determine the property line between properties. The contractor shall be responsible for having the finished work substantially conform to the typical section and dimensions called for in the construction specifications and/ or plans. All work performed for this project must remain within the existing R/W or established easements on each roadway. Any inspection or checking of the Contractor’s layout by the engineer and the acceptance of all or any part of it shall not relieve the Contractor of his responsibility to secure the required dimensions, existing grades, and elevations of the several parts of the work. The Contractor shall exercise care in the preservation of stakes and benchmarks and shall have them reset at his expense when any are damaged, lost, displaced or removed. The Contractor shall use competent personnel and suitable equipment for the layout work required. The Contractor shall not engage the services of any person or persons in the employment of the South Carolina Department of Transportation or Sumter County for the performance of any work covered by this item.
