Specifications include, but are not limited to: Texas Tech University System and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center propose to transform approximately 14,000 SF of existing research space on the fifth floor of Pod B into state-of-the-art BSL2/BSL2+ laboratories. The laboratories will feature adaptable casework and movable wall partitions for easy reconfiguration, with all MEP systems being renovated to accommodate a flexible layout as described below. This project aims to reduce operating costs, enhance efficiency, promote collaboration, and ensure safety, all while creating a welcoming environment for recruitment purposes. Adjacent areas of the 5th floor and floors below are occupied and conducting research. The successful proposer and Texas Tech will have the opportunity to negotiate continued services for two (2) additional research labs approximately the same size, layout, and services in the Lubbock Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. The mechanical design for this project involves the demolition and reconfiguration of duct distribution systems, installation of new airflow control valves and reheat coils, creation of a new exhaust system, revamping of heating and steam distribution piping, addition of fan coil units, and installation / integration of DDC controls. The plumbing design includes changes to water and piping distribution systems, replacement of waste piping, and installation of emergency safety showers.
