Specifications include, but are not limited to: G.1 Acceptable Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, alternate products (other than the following manufacturers) may be used with prior approval from the HCS Project Manager or designee: G.1.1 InPro Corporation Mohawk Signs Best Sign Systems APCO Architectural Sign Systems G.1.2 The use of a brand name is for the purpose of describing the standard of quality, performance, and characteristics desired and is not intended to limit or restrict competition. G.2 General Requirements G.2.1 Comply with all applicable provisions of the ADA and ANSI A117.1-1998. G.2.2 Character proportion: Letters and numbers on signs must have a width-to-height ratio between 3:5 and 1:1 and a stroke width-to-height ratio between 1:5 and 1:10. G.2.3 Color Contrast: Characters and symbols must contrast with their background—either light characters on a dark background or dark characters on a light background. G.2.4 Raised Characters or Symbols: Letters and numbers on signs must be raised 1/32 in. (0.8 mm) minimum and be sans serif characters. Raised characters or symbols must be at least 5/8 in. (16 mm) high, but no higher than 2 in. (50 mm). Symbols or pictograms on signs must be raised 1/32 in. (0.8 mm) minimum G.2.5 Symbols of Accessibility: Accessible facilities required to be identified, must use the international symbol of accessibility. Use manufacturer’s standard pictograms wherever applicable. G.2.6 Braille: Grade II with accompanying text. Grade II Braille produced with the Raster Method, patented process for placing Braille on signage. Raster Braille is computer engineered using a carbide-engraving bit, press-fit tool with vacuum pump and UV stable acrylic rasters. G.2.7 All glass mounted and interior wall mounted signs do not receive screw holes. Instead, they are to have double sided vinyl tape/adhesive on the back side for mounting. Backer plates/blank backing plates will be required on all glass applications.
