The goal of the project is to browse all available woody brush in a historically oak-dominated dry-mesic hardwood forest. The primary target vegetation includes, but is not limited to, cherry regeneration, gooseberry, buckthorn, honeysuckle and other shade tolerant woody understory species. The project consists of two approximately 10-acre paddocks (20 acres in total) located along Sakatah Lake State Park Road. Paddocks are less than ¼-mile from each other, allowing the Contractor to move goats between sites without the need for trailering. Both paddocks are situated along the park’s road/trail system, which should help facilitate fencing layout. The easternmost paddock (Paddock #1) lies between the park’s boat ramp parking lot (eastern edge) and picnic shelters (western edge). The western paddock (Paddock #2) will likely require a limited amount of brush and downed debris removal along the western and southern edges, which will be completed by the Project Manager. Any additional clearing of vegetation/debris required for installation and maintenance of fencing is the responsibility of the Contractor. There is no water source available within the paddocks, however, water sources within the park (for filling portable tanks) are available at the park shop and the park campground, a short distance from the paddocks.
