The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) intends to charter one ocean shrimp trawl vessel to participate in a research project looking to evaluate if adjustments to the height of the trawl net off the seafloor (fishing line height) can be used to improve bycatch reduction for eulachon and other fish. This project seeks to conduct eight sample days between June 1, 2024 and August 31, 2024. The eight sample days will ideally be split between two four-day research cruises. This project will also require one mobilization day and one demobilization day at the beginning and end of the project, respectively, and offloading days following the end of each research cruise. The research cruises must take place out of Astoria, Newport, or Charleston.
