Specifications include, but are not limited to: The South Carolina Department of Transportation is soliciting bids for two (2) handheld ground penetrating devices that have the capabilities of detecting rebar, post tension cable, metal, or any other concrete embedded material within the structural elements of the State’s bridges and other structural elements. The devices will need to have specific features during their application. In general, the devices will need to detect rebar, post tension cable, metal, glass fiber cables, plastic conduits, wood, and voids in concrete structures within multiple layers of objects. More specifically, the devices will need to be handheld and battery operated weighing less than 6 lbs. in operation. The devices will need to be water and dust resistant with rechargeable batteries with the capabilities of at least 4 hours of run time each use. The devices will need to provide a real-time view inside of the concrete structures in order to automatically produce the images for direct on-site evaluation of the user scanned data with minimal passes. The displays shall have color capabilities so that the user can easily interpret the data displayed. The devices will need to be able to detect objects embedded up to 12 inches deep in standard operation. The localization accuracy of the objects will need localized within +/- 0.5 inches of the displayed location. The depth indication will need to be accurate within 15% for scans up to 12 inches deep. The devices will need to be capable of operating within the temperature range of 5 to 122 degrees F. The provider will need to offer technical support either directly or indirectly to assist with troubleshooting the devices.
