Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City is a member of the National League of Cities and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The Mayor and Council are active participants in both organizations, serving as committee and board members. Mayor and Council and City staff have worked closely with legislators both at the state and federal levels on a number of various projects and concerns. The Council has a Legislative Committee which each year identifies specific issues that the City will focus on at the Federal level. The Council Legislative Committee is staffed through the City Manager's Office and the Municipal Counselor's Office. The City Manager's office acts as a liaison between the Federal Legislative Consultant, Mayor, Council and City Departments. The Municipal Counselor's office reviews legislation, provides legal advice and assistance to the Mayor, Council and the City Manager's Office. The City of Oklahoma City has for some years contracted with a Federal Legislative Consultant to counsel and advise the city in legislative matters and prepare and present the City's interests in Washington, D.C., to Congress and executive-level Federal officials.
