The Project involves extensive renovation, rehabilitation, and restoration work to the historic Thomas Gamble building, constructed in 1877 and operating for several years as a shipping/ receiving warehouse and office before being purchased by the City of Savannah in 1943. Selective demolition has recently been performed on the building, removing nonhistoric material. The selected General Contractor’s work will include, but not be limited to, additional selective demolition, exterior envelope stabilization, rehabilitation, restoration of noted items, new MEP and Fire Protection systems, interior up-fit including a new elevator and stairs. The project scope will work within the Secretary of the Interior’s Guidelines for Rehabilitation. The upper 5 floors/ space will be developed into a combination of offices, meeting spaces, and administrative spaces for the City. The River Street level will remain as tenant spaces, with limited scope required for this level. For the majority of the construction schedule, River Street tenants are to remain in operation with limited and minimal disruption.
