Specifications include, but are not limited to: The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (SCDJJ) is seeking bids to safely remove forty-two (42) trees in addition to grinding forty-five (45) stumps at its Broad River Corrections Complex (BRCC) . Specifications: Trees to be removed are: Goldsmith Cafeteria: 5 Pines and 4 Stumps Goldsmith Circle: 2 stumps Goldsmith Hill Slope: 6 stumps Palmetto building: 2 Pecans, 4 Pines Willow Lane Road: 2 Pines, 6 Stumps Willow Lane Maintenance Shop: 8 pines Willow Lane Finance Building: 1 Pine and 20 Stumps Dental Clinic: 3 Pines Willow Lane Gym: 2 Oaks Transition Home: 12 Pines Building Evergreen: 3 Pines and 2 Stumps Birchwood Gym: 3 Stumps Birchwood Greenhouse: 1 Stump Birchwood Upholstery Shop: 1 Stump Contractor Must: a) Cut and remove all trees and stumps that are marked with flagging (trees) and paint (stumps). b) Use stump-grinding machinery which has a cutter head designed to grind stumps approximately 6 inches below ground level. The machine must have a guard to protect flying debris, and cannot be used within 10 feet of pedestrians, vehicles, and road traffic. The contractor, at his discretion, may elect to dispose of some of the smaller debris by mechanical chipping. c) Provide all implements, machinery, equipment, tools, materials, transportation, mobilization, labor, fuel, work zone traffic control, and any other items necessary to perform tree removal and stump grinding. d) Be OSHA compliant and adhere to all OSHA regulations. Personal Protective Equipment will be the financial responsibility of the contractor. Safety regulations can be found at https://www.osha.gov/laws- regs/regulations/standardnumber/1910. e) must take precaution in roping trees, especially those diseased, rotten/ rotting, split, or in appearance to be visibly weak. Safety ropes, tools, severed limbs, equipment, and aerial lifts shall be handled in such a way as to ensure they do not come into contact with any utility lines f) Cut all pines tress into manageable pieces and haul off site. All tree material including tops, branches, and trunks must be removed from site within same business day except a limited amount of hardwoods which will be stored on site as determined by Horticulture Manager, Greg Goforth. g) Cut marked hardwood trees into 4-foot pieces, disposing of the tops and rubbish. The hardwood trunks and larger branches will be relocated by contractor to greenhouse area. h) Perform service during hours of Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm ET. i) Avoid placing heavy equipment on sidewalks and curbs that will cause damage to structures. Any damage caused by the Contractor’s operations shall be repaired and restored to the satisfaction of the SCDJJ maintenance manager. All SCDJJ grounds and premises must be restored to original condition once work is complete. j) Protect all existing improvements within the work site from damage, which include but are not limited to: signs, fences, guardrail, drainage structures, roadways and buildings.
