Specifications include, but are not limited to: This project will include the removal of existing roof and installation of new cedar shingled roof on the home. The new roof construction shall be reflective of the historic nature of the site. Roofs currently installed over solid decking will require the installation of an underlayment material (Cedar Breather or similar approved product) to allow for proper installation. Roof install shall be completed within Cedar Shingles and Shingle Bureau Guidelines. (100% heartwood, 100% clear and 100% edge grain); 24” length; medium (approximately ¾” at butt); with a minimum 50-year material warranty [reference Certi-Label’s® Certi-Split® Handsplit Shakes for comparison]. New roof installations shall include Ice/Water shields installed at chimneys, windows and eaves prior to Cedar Breather, or similar underlayment, installation. Any metal needing repair/replacement on valleys and around the fireplace chimneys shallbe done with copper. Stainless steel nails are to be used when installing the cedar shingles. The homes guttering system is built into the cedar roof and drops down through the soffit. Any metal needing repairs/replacement shall be of the same galvanized materials and tested to ensure the guttering system is functioning as it was designed to with no leaks.
