The contractor will provide a designated full-time equivalent staff position to function as a discharge planner for the purpose of assisting individuals scheduled for release from the Anchorage Correctional Complex. This position will work in conjunction with on-site DOC mental health staff and will have regular contact with DOC mental health release program staff. The contractor must clearly understand the operation of and interface between the following: DOC institutional services; DOC release program options; and community resources available to treat mental illness and provide treatment for substance abuse and mental disabilities if needed on an individualized case-by-case basis. The Department of Corrections will provide adequate workspace, office equipment, and a desk telephone within the Anchorage Correctional Complex for use by the discharge planner. The discharge planner position must have experience and knowledge sufficient to recognize symptoms of mental illness and suicide risk and know when it is appropriate and necessary to call in DOC mental health staff to consult.
