Specifications include, but are not limited to: All plants must be healthy and free of disease. All plant material must be delivered in an undamaged, healthy, vigorous condition. Plants must be grown within 200 miles of Portland below 1500 feet in their final growing season. Seed Sources: Contractor must provide the City with specific seed source locations for all plant materials. Documentation of all seed source locations must be tracked and maintained by contractor and be provided to the City. Original seed sources shall be under 1,000-foot elevation and within the areas of Washington, Clackamas, Multnomah, Columbia, Yamhill, Marion, Polk, Benton, Linn, Lane and Douglas counties in Oregon or the areas of Clark, Cowlitz, Thurston, Pierce, and Lewis counties in Washington. Collections from further south maybe permissible with City approval. Bareroot trees and shrubs: Roots must be free of soil and weeds. Bareroot material includes field-grown materials that are not in containers and delivered in bundles and bags without soil. Maximum size for all species is 36 inches above root crown. Target height for most species is 18” with a minimum of 12” unless noted. Average width of branching in the widest part of the plant should not be more than 18 inches across. The cost of below grade plants will be 75% of bid price for the first year. Root Pruning: Roots must be pruned after harvest if wider than spread of branches, or longer than 12 inches from root crown. Pruning equipment must be clean and free of disease. Maximum average width of roots should not be wider than 12 inches across. Roots should be at least 1/3 of total biomass of plant. Top cutting: Some shrub species might require top cutting to reduce the size of plants during the growing season and prior to bagging. No tree species can be top cut except Salix and Populus species.
