Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of Fredericksburg wishes to enter into a contract(s) for professional archaeological services on an on-call, as-needed basis. The City implements requirements for archaeological investigation in association with land development projects citywide, as defined in Ordinance 21-08, and included as City Code §72-50.5 Archaeological Resources. Professional archaeological services are needed to assist in the review of submitted plans and studies, evaluate site significance, provide recommendations for further investigation of sites, conduct on-site monitoring during minor land disturbance, and assist in monitoring and documenting unexpected discoveries of archaeological resources. Specific tasks may include: Reviewing Phase IA reconnaissance or alternative studies submitted as a component of Major Site Plan applications, including: ensuring the submitted study is sufficient to meet code requirements, evaluating assessments of the presence of archaeological resources, and estimating site size and boundaries or areas of impact. Consulting on scopes of work for additional investigation and/or mitigation (Phase II or III and site interpretation) to be incorporated into memoranda of agreement approved with Major Site Plans. Providing comments on final studies/documentation submitted to the City after completion of archaeological investigations. Assisting City staff in the evaluation of minor application types (Minor Site Plans, Residential Lot Grading Plans, and Certificates of Appropriateness) to determine if archaeological resources are likely to be present and impacted by the proposed project. Conducting on-site monitoring for archaeological resources during land disturbance associated with minor application types (estimated to be needed in half-day or fullday increments), if determined necessary during the review of the application. Documenting resources identified during monitoring or as unexpected discoveries through photography, measurements, field notes, and limited additional investigation, and providing a letter report to the City once complete. Conducting archaeological or architectural survey in association with City-led projects or on City-owned land.
