Specifications include, but are not limited to: ICHD HHW program is designed to accept hazardous waste from Ingham County households. Household Hazardous Waste includes hazardous materials generated by residents during nonbusiness activities. The ICHD HHW does not publish a comprehensive list of hazardous materials accepted. Our goal is to provide an outlet for residents to dispose of waste which should not be landfilled or disposed of by sanitary sewer. The types of materials collected changes slightly from year to year. Please see Appendix A for information on waste types and quantities generated in recent years. Ingham County staff receives hazardous materials from the public both by appointment and on regularly scheduled drop off days. Ingham County staff sort, categorize and package the majority of materials into 55 gallon drums, six (6) 4-cubic yard cardboard boxes or other appropriate packaging. Scheduled drop off times for the public are twice a week from the first of May through the end of September. October through April access to the service is by appointment. The storage units have the capacity for forty (40), 55 gallon barrels and six (6) 4-cubic-yard boxes. Final disposal pick-ups by waste hauler are scheduled at the start of the season to have waste periodically removed before storage capacity has been reached. Individual waste hauling events have been approximately six (6) 4-cubic yard boxes, and thirty (30) 55 gallon drums, and between five (5) and ten (10) boxes of florescent tubes. We have averaged fifteen (15) pick-up events per year, (approximately every two weeks). The total number of pick-up events may vary.
