Specifications include, but are not limited to: Furnish and deliver engineered wood fiber safety surface for playgrounds per the attached requirements and specifications of the Department of Public Works & Parks. 1. Surfacing shall be an engineered wood fiber consisting of randomly sized virgin hardwood, the majority of which do not exceed 1.5” in length and containing a maximum of 10% to 20% fines to aid in compaction. Product must be non-toxic and may not contain any bark, twigs, leaves or recycled wood products, pallets, waste wood, or any wood containing paint, chemicals or additives. Toxicity data shall be provided by bidder. 2. Surfacing shall meet or exceed IPEMA certification requirements and CPSC Guidelines for Engineered Wood Fiber. Standard wood chips or bark mulch will not be acceptable 3. Supplier must provide test results for Engineered Wood Fiber for impact attenuation in accordance with ASTM F 1292 Standard Specification for Impact Attenuation of Surface Systems Under and Around Playground Equipment. Results must be provided for new and for 12-year-old Engineered Wood Fiber material. 4. Testing of Engineered Wood Fiber in accordance with ASTM F 1292 must show G-max values of less than 155G for the 8” thick system, or 120G for the 12” system at 12’ drop heights, and HIC values of less than 1,000 for both new and 12-year-old material. 5. Supplier must provide test results for the Engineered Wood Fiber in accordance with ASTM F 2075 Specification for Engineered Wood Fiber For Use as a Playground Safety Surface Under and Around Playground Equipment. 6. Supplier will certify all Engineered Wood Fiber to be supplied will be from same manufacturing facility as the test results.
