The City of Akron, Ohio is seeking qualified Engineering Consultants to provide professional services for the Raw Water Intake Valve Replacement and Repairs Phase 1. The project consists of the design of repairing and replacing existing valves as necessary to correct broken and deteriorated valves to ensure sustained operability of the raw water intake line by preparing construction documents, detailed construction plans signed and stamped as Engineer of Record, cost estimating, and technical specifications. Phase 1 will replace one 48-inch valve and repair the vault containing the 60-inch sluice gate valve. These valves are located east of the raw water intake and spillway for the Akron Water Plant, which can be accessed from Ravenna Road near the water plant. Currently, several of the valves are not operating, and either need replaced or repaired due to age or mechanical failures. Also, the concrete vaults that contain these valves need repair. The 48-inch valve on the 48-inch raw water intake has been chosen to be replaced in-kind with an approved 48-inch valve with flange ends because it is stuck and only partially open. The concrete in the vault containing the 60-inch sluice gate on the 72-inch raw water intake is deteriorating and needs repaired.
