Plants have been grown in “Groove Tube” trays consisting of 38 plants per tray. Each tube within the tray has a minimum top diameter of 2.25 inches and a minimum of 5 inches in depth. Plants may also be in the standard container with dimensions of 2.5” x 2.5” square x 3.5” deep, consisting of 32/38 plants per flat. Plant plugs are to be installed using standard horticultural planting practices. • Remove and dispose of any loose tags or plant labels. • Excavated holes shall be slightly wider and deeper than the plant plug to ensure that root ball is not compressed or elevated above ground level when installed. • Plant plug shall be lightly but firmly packed in the excavated hole with no air holes. Dirt is to fill the entire hole. • Root crown shall be placed at same depth in planting hole as grown in plug. Do not plant too deeply or shallowly. • Root-bound plants shall have roots gently pulled/untangled and spread to ensure good root growth in hole. • Staged plants shall be kept well-watered the day of installation and all other times when staged. Water is available from the site’s existing wetland. Contractor may also supply its own water. • Prior to installation, the Owner shall provide a planting zone map based on the habitat requirements of the individual species. • Priority planting areas will be areas devoid or sparse existing vegetation. Once nonvegetated areas are planted (at a rate of ~5” centers), naturally-vegetated areas can be planted in. One plant per excavated hole is required. • Plants will be sufficiently watered immediately after planting. • Trowels, power augers, and dibble bars are acceptable planting tools. Installed plants shall not float up to water surface when planting in water. Lightly compact soil around root mass to ensure snug fit in excavated hole.
