Water Distribution Pipe Thickness Class 52 Ductile Iron Pipe with thickness design requirements as specified by AWWA C150 and AWWA C151. The City requires all ductile iron pipe to meet the following minimum requirements: pipe shall meet the interior Cement Mortar Lining Requirements as specified by AWWA C104; pipe shall be tar coated on the exterior; have push on joints; include standard gaskets; arrive bundled and stacked in 18 foot minimum lengths; pipe shall be constructed with one end of bell shape and the other end plain; and lubricant shall be supplied as per manufacturer’s specifications. Mechanical Joint Fittings, Bolts and Gaskets Fittings shall be ductile iron in accordance with AWWA C110, AWWA C153, or AWWA C606, latest revisions. The exterior of ductile iron pipe, special, and fittings shall be coated with a 1-mil asphaltic coating in accordance with AWWA C151, Section 51-9. When specified, loose polyethylene encasement shall be supplied in accordance with AWWA C105. Mechanical joints shall conform to AWWA C111. Bolts shall be high-strength, low-alloy steel per AWWA C111. Unless otherwise specified, gasket material shall be standard styrene butadiene copolymer (SBR) per this standard. Mechanical Joint & Tapping Gate Valves Valves shall be Resilient Seated (Wedge) Gate Valves for Water Supply Service as specified by ANSI/AWWA C515. Valves shall meet or exceed the requirements of Underwriters Laboratories Standard UL262. The body, bonnet and seal plate shall be made of ductile iron in accordance with ASTM A536. The wedge shall be ductile iron in accordance with ASTM A536 and shall be totally encapsulated in rubber. No paint shall be allowed in wedge. This rubber coating shall be permanently bonded to the ductile iron wedge casting and shall meet ASTM D429 tests for rubber to metal bonding. All gaskets shall be O-ring seals. O-rings set in a cartridge shall not be allowed. All fasteners shall be stainless steel. The body, bonnet and seal plate shall be epoxy coated in accordance with ANSI/AWWA C550. The coating shall be on the interior and the exterior of the valve. The manufacturers name, valve size, year of manufacture, pressure rating (“250W”), C515 and “DI” shall be cast on the valve. Each valve shall be tested in accordance with ANSI/AWWA C515 and UL262. This shall include hydrostatic pressure testing at 500 psi. A certification of manufacture and testing shall be provided at the purchaser’s request. The City of Adrian recommends valves equivalent to or better than the construction of the ej “Flowmaster” Gate Valves. The City requires all gate valves to meet the following minimum requirements: mechanical joint; 2” square wrench operating nut and opens RIGHT (CLOCKWISE); non-rising stem. Tapping Sleeves Tapping sleeves shall be constructed out of 18-8 type 304 stainless steel including the flange to provide corrosion protection. Flange will conform to AWWA C207 Class D 150 lb. Outlet will be double welded, inside and out. Bolts and nuts will be 18-8 stainless steel and coated to resist galling. Bolts will be of the non-removable type. Tapping sleeves gaskets will be virgin SBR or Buna-N per ASTM 2000 and are to be a full gasket giving 360 degree pipe coverage. The City of Adrian recommends tapping sleeves equivalent to or better than the construction of the Ford “FAST” style tapping sleeve.
