Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Hawaii Department of Education (Department) is committed to advancing the effectiveness of student assessments by enhancing science assessment development for students in grades 3 through 8 and high school. In an effort to support this initiative, Department plans to integrate advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to aid in the development and analysis of a balanced assessment system for science. Services Description: The service enhancement will involve the use of AI to create Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs) to assist in writing test items. These AI-driven GPTs will augment the capabilities of human item writers by providing targeted, constructive feedback aimed at identifying and avoiding common errors in item development. This feedback will help ensure the creation of robust and unbiased test items, enhancing the validity and reliability of assessments. Furthermore, as part of our commitment to a balanced assessment system, Department intends to develop Computer Adaptive Tests (CATs) for all grade levels and high school science courses. These tests will adapt to each student’s ability level in real-time, providing an individualized assessment experience that accurately reflects their knowledge and skills. The adaptive nature of these tests will allow for their use both formatively—to guide ongoing instructional strategies—and summatively—to assess cumulative student learning.
