Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Maryland Primary Care Program (MDPCP) Program Management Office (hereinafter referred to as “the PMO”) is the State office at MDH responsible for assisting the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) in the implementation and operations of the MDPCP. The PMO will prepare primary care practice staff, both clinical and non-clinical, to assist the primary care practices at which they work in achieving the goals of the MDPCP. The goals include but are not limited to: improving the quality of care, reducing the total cost of care, and improving the experience of care for all Marylanders. Primary care practices enrolled in MDPCP are expected to focus on reducing unnecessary hospital and emergency department utilization, improving chronic disease and substance use outcomes, and expanding the capabilities of the practice to deliver comprehensive primary care, including integrated behavioral health. To assure that clinical and non-clinical support staff are well prepared to contribute to practice transformation to achieve advanced primary care requirements, the PMO will host the 2024 Advanced Primary Care Staff Training Academy with a targeted set of educational training sessions on important topics. Key advanced primary care techniques and skills for staff will be reviewed, including examples and methods of how to implement new strategies and tools into the workflows of a primary care practice. The 2024 sessions will be focused on expanding upon the training sessions from the 2023 Staff Training Academy with an emphasis on case studies and collaborative sessions (see Appendix A).
