The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is interested in gaining a better understanding of non-silvicultural removals (primarily those not covered by Ch. 132 Forest Cutting Plans) of woody vegetation from forest land and non-forest land, and silvicultural removals that are not regulated, including but not limited to: • Forest conversion to other land uses • Utility transmission line (electricity, gas, water, etc.) maintenance • Utility distribution line maintenance • Transportation corridor maintenance • Maintenance of other land uses (e.g., agricultural, residential, etc.) • Incidental removals such as landowner firewood harvest • Prescribed fire • Mechanical and chemical forest stand improvement and pre-/non-commercial treatments. Ideally, information will include the spatial patterns of occurrence (location and areal extent), characterization of removals (magnitude of removals, intensity as proportion of pre-activity stocks), and first-order (e.g., where the removed vegetation is initially brought) and second order (movement/product mix after that) disposition.
