Specifications include, but are not limited to: 4.3.1 Chassis Dimensions 4.3.1.1 CA: Cab to rear axle (CA) dimension will be determined by the Contractor and must provide proper weight distribution between the front and tandem rear axles. 4.3.1.2 BBC: Front bumper to back of cab must be approximately 107 inches. 4.3.1.3 WB: Wheelbase must provide proper weight distribution to the front and tandem rear axles based on an evenly and fully loaded truck. 4.3.1.4 AF: Axle (to end of) frame. The AF must be large enough to accommodate an approximate 18' - 6" van body and its dock extension. 4.3.1.5 OL: Overall length from bumper to extreme end of vehicle must be not exceed 344 inches. 4.3.2 Frame 4.3.2.1 The alloy steel frame must be capable of withstanding the strains of normal service, rigidly supporting all component parts. Rigidity must be accomplished with cross members, bracing and fillet members, fusion welded at all joints and lapped connections. Spot welding will not be acceptable. Fish plating will not be acceptable to accomplish greater strength. 4.3.2.2 The rated combined resisting bending moment (RBM) must be approximately 2,500,000 inch pounds. 4.3.2.3 There must be two (2) recessed tow hooks secured to the front primary chassis and accessible through the front bumper. 4.3.3 Engine 4.3.3.1 The engine must be a Cummins L9, 4-cycle, 6-cylinder diesel equivalent or greater with the following characteristics: a. Horsepower (minimum) - 360 HP @ 1800 - 2100 RPM. b. Torque (minimum) - 1150 pound-foot @ 1400 RPM. c. The engine must be capable of using No. 2 and/or combination of No. 1 and No. 2 diesel fuel. The engine must be tuned when delivered to give optimum performance using No. 2 diesel fuel. d. The geared speed at engine governed speed must permit up to 65 mph truck speed. e. The engine must be equipped with an engine shutdown with automatic override, early warning light and bell. 4.3.4 Exhaust 4.3.4.1 Exhaust emission controls must be in accordance with current Federal, State and Chicago requirements. 4.3.4.2 Muffler and exhaust system must be sized and arranged in accordance with chassis Manufacturer's recommendations and in accordance with current noise abatement ordinances. 4.3.4.3 Exhaust must be single horizontal directed to the right side of the truck. 4.3.5 Fuel Tank 4.3.5.1 The truck must have approximately fifty (50) gallon capacity step tank with non-siphoning feature. The tank must be mounted to the left side of the truck. 4.3.6 Heavy-Duty Cooling System 4.3.6.1 The truck must have a heavy-duty maximum cooling radiator which is either oversized or greater core thickness than standard with a Horton air-operated fan drive. 4.3.6.2 The anti-freeze must be satisfactory for year-round service and must be protected from freezing to at least -34°F. Antifreeze must be approved for use by the engine Manufacturer. 4.3.6.3 Cooling and heater hoses must be silicone type factory installed and secured with stepless constant torque clamps. 4.3.7 Transmission 4.3.7.1 The transmission must be an Allison 3000 RDS fully automatic type, full power shift, planetary gearing, six (6) forward ranges, one reverse with auxiliary heavy-duty oil cooler. It must be compatible with engine type called for in this specification. 4.3.7.2 A filter must be installed on the outlet side of the cooler as recommended by the Manufacturer. 4.3.7.3 A transmission fluid temperature gauge must be in the cab dash. 4.3.7.4 A permanent shift diagram must be attached to cab dash.
