Specifications include, but are not limited to: Part 1 of 2 - Wells HS Restorer will restore and/or conserve the large-scale indoor mural created by Keith Haring at Wells Community Academy High School, located at 936 N Ashland Avenue, Chicago, Illinois (Art Asset ART11488). This indoor mural is integral to the building Dimensions: 192” by 1,152” Materials: Acrylic paint on brick, wood, and metal Restorer shall visit Wells High School to formally examine the artwork, document the current condition of the mural, and produce a full condition report and presentation. Specifically, restorer should: Utilize various types of observation which may include direct white light, tangential light, transmitted light, microscopy, ultraviolet, infra-red, and radiographs. Utilize identification tools which may include physicochemical tests: resistance of the constituent materials, analysis of textile fibers, identification of pigments and resinous materials, etc. Provide detailed condition report of the current state of the work of art, including numerous photographs of the piece and overall condition. The report should be thorough and should contain images of all condition issues of the piece. Give a presentation to the works of art policy designees on the report. Reports should be provided in advance of the presentation. Based on the condition report, Restorer shall provide a detailed timeline and treatment plan for the panels. The treatment plan should include a list of all materials that will be provided by the vendor to use during the restoration process. The treatment plan should address each issue outlined in the condition report The treatment plan should provide a plan for graffiti removal. The treatment plan will include a plan for long term stability and safety of the work of art in a school setting. This may include suggestions of covering the piece with plexiglass or other materials to protect it from the environment. After consultation with arts designees, Restorer shall restore the works in accordance with their reports, adhering to high professional standards of restoration and conservation appropriate to each work of art. Before the piece is considered complete, a final site visit to the work of art with the designees of the CPS works of art policy is required. The timeline for the restoration project must align with Chicago Public Schools’ summer schedule so that work can be completed when students are not in the building. Restorer shall provide updated photographs of the restored pieces and provide a report on final overall condition. Part 2 - 10 panels in warehouse Restorer will restore ten (10) panels that are currently in storage in the CPS warehouse located at 4720 South St. Louis Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. Art assets: ART10435, ART10436, ART10437, ART10438, ART10440, ART10441, ART10442, ART10443, ART10444, ART10445 These panels are not mounted and are currently separated The panels are poorly stored in wooden storage boxes Dimensions: Each panel is 96” by 48” Materials: Masonite with acrylic paint Restorer shall visit CPS warehouse to remove the panels from storage boxes, formally examine the 10 panels, document the current condition of the 10 panels, and produce a full condition report and presentation. Specifically, restorer should: Remove the works from crates for examination and design and recommend improved storage solutions in the warehouse for ongoing storage Utilize various types of observation which may include direct white light, tangential light, transmitted light, microscopy, ultraviolet, infra-red, radiographs Utilize various types of identification which may include physicochemical tests: resistance of the constituent materials, analysis of textile fibers, identification of pigments and resinous materials, etc. Provide detailed condition reports of the current state of each panel including photographs of the pieces and overall condition. Give a presentation to the works of art policy designees on the report. Reports should be provided in advance of the presentation. Based on the condition report, Restorer shall provide a detailed timeline and treatment plan for the panels. The treatment plan should include a list of all materials that will be provided by the vendor. The treatment plan should address each issue outlined in the condition report. The treatment plan should provide a plan for graffiti removal. The treatment plan will also include a plan for long term stability and safety of the work of art in a school setting. The treatment plan should also include mounting the 10 panels into 5 individual pieces (two panels for each piece). Installation of the fully restored and backed pieces into 5 different building locations (Chicago Public School buildings) After consultation with arts designees, Restorer shall restore the works in accordance with their reports, adhering to high professional standards of restoration and conservation appropriate to each work of art. Before the piece is considered complete, a final visit to see the works of art with the designees of the CPS works of art policy is required. The deadline for this part of the restoration project is September 30, 3024. Restorer shall provide updated photographs of the restore pieces and provide a report on final overall condition.
