The City of Dallas (City) is accepting bids for a 5-year service contract for targeted vegetation management and abatement within City of Dallas properties. The City’s intent is to award the targeted grazing and vegetation abatement contract to an experienced goat herder that uses proven methods of vegetation improvement projects using goats. The City is experiencing heavy underbrush problems in its natural areas, and along its creeks and Floodway Management Areas (FMA) that impedes stormwater flow. This solicitation is to develop and implement a goat vegetation management program through targeted grazing clearing areas of woody invasive understory vegetation and a sheep grass management program through targeted areas such of high grass. The primary goal is to establish an overall approach to the improved accessibility, beautification, maintenance of riparian and watershed function, and reduction of flooding due to heavy brush impeding storm water flow by a natural control method. Additionally, this will add in reduction of wildfire fuel loads and invasive species such as but not limited to Chinese privet, Asian bush honeysuckle and Johnson grass. Targeted grazing with goats and sheep controls problem vegetation without erosion, chemicals, or the disruption and burning of fossil fuels that comes with mechanization, thus reducing carbon release into the air.
