Specifications include, but are not limited to: CONDUIT INSTALLATION - A. General a. For ease of organization, conduits in the same trench must differ in color. Conduits with colored stripes are acceptable. b. The Project shall specify whether directional boring or plowing is required for the project or segments of the Project. Changes to this project indication may be made only with the County’s approval. In any case, plowing shall be completed only in areas where sufficient right of way is available, and sufficient restoration of the area is feasible. c. Unless specified otherwise in the Project, minimum depth for conduits shall be 42 inches below the back of curb elevation. Road crossings shall be 60” deep. Significant changes in depth must be approved by the County. d. The County must approve all joint-trench projects. No additional conduits may be installed within the same trench as County conduits without documented permission granted by the County. e. As needed, the Contractor must call in GSOC locates and coordinate with utilities in the area (see 4D above). B. Terminations a. Conduits shall terminate in a hand hole or building. b. Conduits shall be capped with suitable expandable plugs; duct tape is not acceptable. c. Conduits and duct runs shall be installed on compacted soil when entering a hand hole or building foundation, or when crossing a road, railroad track or bridge abutment, to prevent shear stress on the conduit. d. Conduit penetrations into buildings or through above-ground foundations shall be sealed with duct seal or conduit sealer, to prevent the entry of water or gas. C. Identification a. Conduits in the same trench must differ in color, per 5A (a). b. For conduit installed by hand, or in sensitive locations, a warning tape shall be installed a minimum 1’ above the duct, of inert plastic film 4 mils thick and formulated for prolonged underground use, bearing a continuous printed warning of buried fiber optic cable. D. Joints a. All conduit couplers must be push lock style couplers. Alternatives must be approved by the County. b. Conduits shall be joined in such a way as to prevent solid matter from entering the joints. Joints shall form continuous smooth interior surfaces between joining conduit sections so that cable will not be damaged when pulled past the joint. c. All conduits shall be suitable for jetting fiber. d. Provide conduit bends, except factory bends, with a radius of at least six times the nominal diameter of the conduit. Make conduit bends without damaging the conduit and without reducing the internal diameter of the conduit. For bends in conduit runs, provide the minimum radius necessary, but do not exceed 360 degrees of bend per run between hand holes, foundations, or both. E. Locate wires e. Each trench or path requires a conductivity wire for locating. The Contractor shall direct-bury a solid copper 12-gauge wire parallel to the duct path, and connect the wire to a locate post for cable locating. See 3F(d). f. All wires inside locate post must be labelled with direction. g. Entire project shall be located to ensure conductivity. Flags are not needed, paint is sufficient...
