Specifications include, but are not limited to: Minimum required tasks for the successful planting of each tree shall include: • Placement of tree root ball on undisturbed tree pit subgrade and partial removal of root ball enclosure material (e.g. burlap). • Backfill of remaining voids within tree pit with plantable soil mixture • Guying of tree to wood stakes within tree pit such that tree stands plumb • Addition of 3” of undyed hardwood mulch to tree pit surface, leaving a 3” space free of mulch surrounding the trunk of the tree • Initial watering of tree every week for first three weeks unless 1” of rain or more has occurred in that week. • Application of water retention gel, fertilizer, and/or other additives as appropriate. The Contractor shall guarantee the progressive development and sound health of all trees planted under this contract for a period of two (2) years from the date of the City’s initial acceptance. During this warranty period, the Contractor shall perform the following tasks: • Re-guy tree to wood stakes during planting if needed such that tree stands plumb. • After the first year of the warranty period has elapsed, remove guying materials (tethers and stakes) from the tree pit and provide disposal of these materials. • Remove weeds from tree pits as necessary. • Prune deadwood or storm-damaged branches as necessary. • Add undyed mulch to restore 3” required depth within tree pit as necessary. • Water every two weeks unless there has been at least 1” of rain in the last two weeks. • Coordinate with a city representative to inspect planted trees...
