Please note: This is a Sole Source Notification. Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Armstrong Lift Station was constructed in 2012 and included installation of 4 Sulzer pumps. Pump #3 is an original pump from the construction of the lift station and has reached the end of its useful life. The current design of the pump (closed impeller) is prone to clogging which requires maintenance crews to clean the pump on a weekly basis. Continued weekly cleaning in this manner that requires disassembly will lead to premature failure of the pump. It is concluded that the pump needs to be replaced with a new design with open impellers. Two pumps have already been replaced with the new design. Sulzer Pumps is sold locally by Davidson Sales and Engineering. Due to the design of the lift station, other manufacturer’s pumps will require modification of the piping and pump pedestals to be installed correctly. Sulzer Pumps are the only direct-fit replacement District staff are aware of. An alternate supplier was contacted (Xylem/Flygt) and substantial piping and pump stand modifications would be required for the pump to fit, which would lead to cost increases and a need to sole source Flgyt pumps in the future. Davidson Sales and Engineering is not on a State of Utah Cooperative Contract. In addition, the other 3 pumps are Sulzer Pumps and it is in the District’s best interest to maintain compatibility with existing hardware.
