Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1: Oak mortality from spongy moth defoliation with 2 treatment option: Treatment 1 option • Remove dead oak trees. • Woody material down to a 6 inch diameter must be hauled off site. • Stumps must be within 12 inches of the ground. • Residual tops and debris must be in contact with the forest floor. • Salvage boundary will be determined by a DEM forester. • All State of RI BMPs must be adhered to. • Additional trees may be marked at forester’s discretion. • Tress marked with an “X” shall be girdled. • All landings and skid roads should be seeded in with a conservation mix approved by a DEM forester. • A fully mechanized feller buncher, tracked or wheeled, must be used to fell trees. • No hand felling will be allowed. • Price should be submitted as a cost per acre. • Care shall be taken not to damage residual trees not being harvested. • Work shall begin within 1 month of DEM request. • Work to be bid on a per acre basis. Estimated total acreage is 700 acres. This is an estimate only for bidding purposes. The agency might require more or less during the life of the contract. The agency might require more or less during the life of the contract. 2: Southern Pine Beetle Infestation/suppression harvest Treatment • Infested trees will be felled and chipped. • All tree material from infested trees must be chipped down to a ¼” and hauled offsite. • Whole tree skidding will be allowed.
