Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City will incorporate a two-phase approach with Phase 1 consisting of a space needs assessment with Phase 2 comprising of the design services for the Firehouse Station up-fits. Phase 1: Space Needs This study is essential to the Columbia Fire Department’s successful update of our current firehouses to current industry standards. With cancer prevalent in the fire service, we must take a proactive approach to mitigate these issues by incorporating Hot, Warm and Cold zones. This will limit the transfer of carcinogens in the living areas. Furthermore, we must address the privacy issues in the dorm rooms and shower/bathroom areas. Renovations to the dorms are needed as well as individual showers installed for privacy. Having adequate shower facilitates would ensure personnel feel comfortable showering at the firehouse which would aid in quickly removing any contaminates. We currently have an open shower design with three showerheads and no separation. The plan should assess the current situation, future needs, the financial feasibility of construction and maintenance of each of the location needs, along with possible funding sources. A project budget, timeline, and action items should be clearly defined for each project. Phase 2: Design Services For each up-fit project, the Architect/Engineer shall provide services for the standard phases as follows: Schematic Design Phase To include documentation of existing conditions Design Development Phase Construction Documents Phase Bidding/Permitting Phase Construction Administration Meetings/Presentations – it is anticipated presentations may be required to staff, and/or executive management, City Council.
