The purpose of these specifications is for the completion of a painting contract. This work will be performed at the main Middlesex College campus in Edison, New Jersey, at the Physical Education Center (PEC) building. The PEC is a steel frame/brick building with built-up roof, built in1966 and expanded in 1985. The building totals approximately 108,000 square feet and houses the College’s Physical Education Department. It contains a gymnasium, natatorium, racquetball courts, dance studio, locker rooms, fitness center, classrooms and support areas. An upper-level observation gallery overlooking the pool, racquetball courts and dance studio. The contractor shall provide all of the necessary labor, material, tools and equipment required to complete the work described on the drawings and in these specifications as follows: a. Cover and protect surrounding areas: All floor surfaces and walls. b. Provide Masonite board for complete floor protection c. Mask all basketball court baskets, and metal assemblies, speakers, light fixtures, score boards, sound panels, signs, electrical plates, hardware, light fixture and fittings prior to preparing surfaces. d. Prepare all designated ceiling surfaces for painting. e. Removal of old paint by sanding, scraping or other manual means as indicted by the SherwinWilliams “Basic Surface Preparation” specifications Appendix C the surface preparation and pain specification is based on Sherwin Williams recommendations. f. Paint ceiling area and joists as indicated in Appendix B.
