The Commonwealth’s ResilientMass Plan includes several Priority Action projects involving the conservations of the state’s fish and wildlife resources, including conservation of freshwater mussels and their host fishes, and dam and lake assessments. To advance these Priority Action projects MassWildlife must procure electrofishing and eDNA sampling equipment. This equipment will supply pertinent information to management plans including the State Wildlife Action Plan. The eDNA equipment will be used to validate the presence of rare mussels and fishes. The electrofishing equipment will be used to determine the relative abundance and composition of fish assemblages in rivers and lakes where freshwater mussels occur. These two are linked because mussels depend on a suite of fishes to disperse throughout aquatic ecosystems.
