Dane County Department of Human Services - Children, Youth and Families Division is seeking a vendor to provide Parent Support and Mentoring services for youth involved in the Youth Justice System. The primary program objective is to provide trauma-informed services to assist parents in assessing and growing skills, better understand positive parenting principles, and improve relationships with their children. In addition, the program will be flexible in programming to support additional services, which the parent may identify and find helpful in the parent/child relationship. Positive parental support and relationships are critical to a young person’s success. There are many parents who could use support in building skills and/or knowledge to effectively parent when their youth are exhibiting risky behaviors or are already system-involved. In addition, parents may struggle with alcohol or other drugs or mental health concerns that can impact effective and supportive parenting. Dane County will contract with an agency that can assist families referred by DCDHS in developing the skills and resources to provide positive support and guidance to their at-risk teens. The parent support staff will also advocate for and assist the parents in navigating various complex systems in order to address barriers to treatment, housing, employment, or other supports and opportunities.
