Specifications include, but are not limited to: All animals grown as whole prey food items shall be humanely raised and fed on a nutritionally balanced wholesome diet suitable for the species. All animals shall be healthy prior to euthanasia, which shall be performed using carbon dioxide in a manner that meets the recommendations of the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Panel on Euthanasia and renders the animal suitable and safe for consumption by zoo animals. All animals will be individually frozen immediately after euthanasia, and packaged in plastic, resealable commercial freezer bags. Animals will remain completely frozen during shipment to the zoo, and shipments must arrive during regular Zoo Commissary hours, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
